“Maggie” star Abigail Breslin

While Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to acting has not yielded any thing to be too excited over yet, buzz is stirring over the film he is currently attached to star, Maggie. The dramatic genre film tells the story of a farmer and his family caught up in the aftermath of a spreading virus that turns it’s victims into zombies and their coming to terms with their eldest daughter, Maggie, being infected.

When the film was first announced and casting rumors were circling, the first name mentioned was Chloe Grace Moretz (Carrie, Kick-Ass 2), who is no longer attached. Instead comes word that Abigail Breslin, who has clashed with the undead before in Zombieland and has appeared in two genre films this year with the sleeper hit The Call and the upcoming IFC release Haunter, will replace Moretz as the titular character. However, this will be Schwarzenegger’s first rodeo in the realm of horror films since the horror-thriller, End of Days, in 1999.

Breslin made quite a name for herself as a child actress and is currently caught in the awkward phase so many go through of blossoming into young woman in front of the cameras. While Moretz has been in the darker and more adult stories for longer she and Breslin both have shown that actresses that are growing up don’t need to gravitate toward roles that require them to be showing more and more skin in order to be accepted as grown-up actresses.
