It’s been rumored since the start of the year and today brings confirmation, The X-Files is returning to its rightful home, Fox TV. Hard to believe, but it’s been 13 years since we were last graced a with small screen version of the tale. The films were never really well embraced by “X-Philes” and the return to the network is cause of celebration among fans.
Show creator Chris Carter comments: “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
The heads of FOX are pleased:
“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,”
“The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”
Carter mentions “six stories” so can we assume a six episode mini-series? Sounds like that might be in the works. At this point David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are the only two officially attached to the project but I would think the rest of the crew will be quick to follow suit. Updates as they come in!
