It has been almost 20 years to the day since the pilot episode of a risky sci-fi show hit FOX, starring a young, charismatic actor by the name David Duchovny and a beautiful 23-year- old newcomer, Gillian Anderson. The X-Files was a risk, and one the world is glad Fox took, as for nearly a decade, The X-Files entranced its viewers with its unique take on their delicate mix between the paranormal and the horrifying. Today, Agent Mulder and Agent Scully have become household names to the worldwide sci-fi community, and still remains as popular as ever due to its revival on DVD and Instant Streaming services.
On July 18th, reunited and feeling so good, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will take the stage at San Diego Comic-Con for a special 20th Anniversary Panel. Alongside the fictional F.B.I. duo will be creator Chris Carter and writers/producers Vince Gilligan, Howard Gordon, David Amann, Darin Morgan, Glen Morgan, John Shiban and Jim Wong. Fans of the series will be ecstatic to learn that along with the panel, there will be a Q&A for the upcoming comic book series, The X-Files: Season 10. The series will take place where the show ended over a decade ago, continuing the paranormal discoveries of the F.B.I.’s strangest partners. It’s as of yet unknown whether or not the comic series or the panel will address the two post-series X-Files films, or the long-discussed third and final film that would wrap up the show’s mythology.
Not only will this event mark the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the series, but it will also mark Gillian Anderson’s first time doing the San Diego Comic Convention, despite her presence in the science-fiction community. Of course, if she’s going to do the Con, why not do it at a significant time in your shows history and make it count? To see these two together again, after having created two of the most iconic characters in sci-fi history, is sure to be more exciting than spotting a UFO of your own.
For anyone who lived on The X-Files for nine years and is definitely attending San Diego Comic-Con, this is an absolute must-see panel. The X-Files was not just a paranormal phenomenon, it was a television phenomenon, taking home 16 Emmy Awards and 5 Golden Globes over its 9 season stint, with both Duchovny and Anderson taking home the “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” Award for the 1996 season.
