While the weather in San Diego was a cool 70 degrees most of the day, the world of entertainment got hot and steamy inside San Diego Comic Con on Friday July 19, 2013. With panels, news releases and banners dropping left and right, it was not a day to be missed.

– Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite live for the upcoming collaboration, The World’s End. The dynamic trio did a panel in the famed Hall H, and spoke about their upcoming film. While they did not show any footage in order to keep audiences untainted to the films surprises, the panel was kept hilarious and irreverent. The film is on pace to release August 23, 2013.

-A new NSFW trailer for Jeff Wadlow’s Kick Ass 2 dropped following the films panel, sans Kick Ass star Nicolas Cage. The panel was cut down considerably due to timing, but stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, John Leguizamo, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Donald Faison were all in attendance, and featured a special appearance via satellite with “Hit Girl” herself, Chloe Grace-Moretz. It is reported that Cage will not be appearing in a cameo for this film or in the previously-attached The Expendables 3.  These two films are set to drop on August 16, 2013 and August 2014, respectively.

Insidious: Chapter 2 holds a strong presence with an interactive environment that allows people to experience James Wan’s vision first hand. With his current horror film, The Conjuring, possessing the box office this weekend, anticipations for Wan’s first sequel are higher than ever. This upcoming thriller is set to scare audiences starting September 13, 2013.

-A new Red Band trailer for Riddick: Rule the Dark debuted at the panel on Friday. The 3-minute trailer made sure to build tension and anticipation while not giving the story away. Stars Vin Diesel and Katee Sackhoff will be speaking at a panel on Saturday for the film. Riddick: Rule the Dark is set to release September 6, 2013.

-A new banner for Spike Lee’s Oldboy dropped at SDCC, and did not disappoint. He seems to be on the right track by releasing yet another subtle, mysterious image accompanied by the release date. The remake of the modern classic revenge thriller is set to premiere October 25, 2013.

– SHOUT! Factory announces their current 2014 SCREAM! Factory Blu-ray slate, which includes John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13, Paul Schrader’s Cat People and Sam Raimi’s Darkman, among others.  However, the most cheer-worthy announcement was the label’s release of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut, an extended version of the cult classic that will introduce nearly an hour of previously unavailable lost footage to the film.

With all this and more, San Diego Comic Con has lived up to the hype thus far. While there is sure to be even more breaking news between now and Sunday, it is recommended you stay in the loop for all of the up to date info from the west coast here at!
