Since everything Marvel releases these days is instant gold and immediately part of the beloved “Marvel Universe,” every other franchise known to man is now also searching for their own “universe.” We have Universal gearing up their “Classic Monsters Universe,” DC attempting to strike gold with the “Justice League Universe” and today brings news of the “Ghostbusters Universe.”
OK, we all already know that Paul Feig is gearing up his “all female” vision of Ghostbusters and personally I’m kind of curious to see how this one goes. Not to be left waiting in the wings though – news has dropped that Sony has tasked Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd to head the Ghost corps production company whose first order of business will be to develop a “dude-centric” follow up to Feigs’ film. It is being rumored that the Russo Brothers have been approached to direct a script penned by Drew Pearce.
While all of this sounds intriguing, it comes with its share of concerns; the biggest being that the Russo Brothers plate is pretty damn full. They’ve already committed to Captain America: Civil War, and those in the know say they are high on the list for the next two Avenger films: the two part Infinity War extravaganza. Something would have to wait to throw the Ghostbusters in the mix. This story is literally morphing by the minute and early word has both Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt involved in the Russo Brothers film…most definitely ups the interest level, wouldn’t you say.
Here’s how Ivan Reitman explains these latest developments, “We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year.”
That’s a lot of Ghostbusters and at this point nothing is cast in stone but it certainly peaks ones interest, does it not?
Every changing situation on this one so check back for updates, there are sure to be a few.
