If you’re not yet watching El Rey Network on a regular basis – the time to start is now. During the haunt season the channel has always played a nice collection of off the wall and little-seen classics and this year they are going to add some new original programming to the mix.
A new show featuring short films by indie filmmakers titled The People’s Network Showcase will air quarterly on the channel. Channel creator Robert Rodriguez describes it as follows”
“When I started El Rey I wanted the network to provide a new pipeline for creators. My roots are in independent filmmaking and I believe in providing opportunities to people working outside of the studio system. We’ve discovered these terrific short films by very talented makers and with this on-air special, we can help get them noticed.”
So, what does all this have to do with John Carpenter? The premiere episode of this new series will be a horror themed event and none other than Mr. Carpenter himself will host this debut episode. When is this going down you ask – Oct. 3oth and check out the line-up of short films he’ll be rolling out:
