For fans who are eagerly awaiting the upcoming blu-ray release of Hammer’s Curse of the Werewolf, from German company Anolis Entertinement, there is good news today. Universal Pictures has been providing HD masters in a 2.00:1 aspect ratio for many blu-ray releases of its catalog titles, even for films that were shot in the 1.78:1 or 1.85:1 ratios. This was the case with Brides of Dracula and Captain Clegg—both released by Final Cut Entertainment in the UK. This, of course, entails a loss of image, either at the top or bottom.

Today, Anolis has confirmed that it has an HD master for Curse of the Werewolf, in an aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which is the same as the previous DVD, and that’s what they are releasing, instead of Universal’s new 2.00:1 HD master. The blu-ray will be available for purchase on August 29th, 2014. Below, are comparison screencaps of the various aspect ratios.
