Have you been chomping at the bit, waiting for a “Bigfoot” found-footage pic that isn’t schlocky? Well, comedian-turned-filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait has answered your prayers. As of late, he has become something of an auteur when it comes to biting, perversely funny black comedy. So, if World’s Greatest Dad and God Bless America were edgy and satirical, his latest, Willow Creek, looks like it will be jumping on the post-Blair Witch Project bandwagon of the found-footage fad. Nevertheless, with Bobcat at the helm, it has a major curiosity factor.

As the trailer goes to show, Willow Creek follows Jim (Bryce Johnson, TV’s Pretty Little Liars) and his skeptical girlfriend Kelly (Alexie Gilmore, World’s Greatest Dad) as they retrace the steps of Bigfoot researchers Patterson and Gimlin. Camping deep in the woods, the couple will most likely have a run-in with the legendary monster. Of course, terror ensues.

Judging by the trailer and the pseudo-documentary conceit, the film probably checks off all of the sub-genre standbys. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t deliver some amusing local color, “you-are-there” tension, and jumpy jolts. While many will have to wait for an official release date, Willow Creek will be hitting Fantasia Film Festival next month. So, stay out of the woods and check it out below!
